Sexual and reproductive rights: part of human rights

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

Start a dialogue on the sexual and reproductive rights of immigrant women.

There is a set of rules, policies, and activities in every country that affect sexual and reproductive health and rights, which may contribute to the provision of sexual and reproductive health information and education, and/or to access to family planning and other essential reproductive and sexual health services.

Unfortunately, there are certain rules or procedures in certain countries that hinder, restrict or prevent the enjoyment of personal and reproductive freedom.

Some governments interfere and obstruct or harm the enjoyment of these rights. In many cases, deprivation of sexual or reproductive freedom leads to a violation of human rights under international law, if the state has signed treaties that respect these rights.

In other cases, the barrier is social and cultural. But this usually happens when there is little or no legal accountability in such countries which have less punishment for “honor killings” or “crimes of passion” to this day.

For women immigrants from these to democratic governments, the transition can be difficult and complicated at times. Therefore, knowledge of their rights, whether they are human, sexual or reproductive, is a key for them to achieve their full integration.

This is part of our effort to provide information, no matter how important it may be, to migrant and refugee women within the Kudwa Network

Furthermore, we will provide training and workshops in relation to this important issue.
